I also fell in love with this book and film in the 90s, and I was pleasantly surprised that the the movie kept as closely as it did to the writing. There aren't many novels that make me laugh out loud, but this is one of them. Thanks for reminding me to go find it on the shelf for my next beach read day!
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to yap about one of my faves, Troy! ♥ I'm so glad I got to share this delight of a story with the world's coziest book club!
LOVE Cold Comfort Farm! It's been too long since I read it, so it's time for a refresh. (I'm thinking audiobook.) The oatmeal bubbling on the stove, reflecting the characters' heated desires, always tickled me ... and of course Aunt Ada seeing something nasty in the woodshed.
“There’ll be no butter in hell” — that line alone sold me on this book!
Thank you both for enlightening to yet another thus far unread book. :)
I want to read this now. Had never heard of it before.
Cool! Mission accomplished, then :)
Love this book and the line: “There’ll be no butter in hell.”
I'm a big fan of the movie and I think we have the book somewhere, it's one of my husband's favorites, going to go find it...
But you haven't read it, Martine? Oh good, we'll be reading it together ;)
"Oh Charles, you do have heavenly teeth."

Charles sounds dreamy! :D
Cold Comfort Farm has been a longtime favorite of mine - for all the reasons you've cited above. Thanks for this!

I'm going to quote you on that "world's coziest book club" 💜
It’s perfect marketing because it’s TRUE! 🥰

Or the bicycle shed. Could have been the tool shed...
Oh good, nice to know - I would love to hear the version narrated by Prunella Scales... Thanks Huck!
Many thanks, Sally, for this wonderful treatment of my newest old book I can't wait to read!
